Pay attention when applying firmware updates

HP has released a warning about a firmware update they released which has the ability to brick servers it is applied to.

The article discussing the issue can be found here.
The frightening part of this issue is that if you experience it the only resolution often is to replace the motherboard with a new one. We have seen and experienced a similar case of this with some HP firmware updates in the past.

HP only allowing download to customers

Please pay attention when applying firmware updates and do your research prior to applying. Let’s hope HP improves their QA processes and this does not discourage customers from applying firmware updates. Combining this with the recent announcement that HP will only allow firmware and driver updates for download to customers that have active support contacts and HP is not making many friends.
